When I registered for this class, I had no idea what it was about..."Surface Research" .... well, then I realized it was just a fancy name for 2D studies.
Anyways, my professor for this class was Robert Meganck. When I saw him in our first day of class, I had a feeling that that he was a nice guy.....(probably because he looks like santa claus). And I was right; He really is a nice person.
He's been teaching here at VCU for about 30 years, so yep! he is the best person to ask for advises (better than the "real" advisors, and no appointments required!)
In this class we did stuff like:
Creating images out of geometric forms (triangles, squares, rectangles..) that would show Stability, chaos, simetry, assymetry, opaque, transparent, sharp, blunt, and so on... I found this assignment quite interesting, just to see how much meaning some simple geometric forms may have when you know how to arrange them.
We also studied color, shadows, depth, we actually did a halloween project with that vegetable that it's almost a pumpkin (I really don't know how to spell the actual name of it)
and the project I liked the most is the one that each student had to create a panel about one of the six themes: communication, transportation, recreation, maintenance, shelter and container. - And then the next student had to continue the serie with another panel , then the third student continues with a third panel, and so on..
I know that I've learned a lot in this class, although sometimes I felt like the class was too long (3 hours) and a lot of this time was just unnecessary... but overall , I liked the experience!

Wow! You and I had a polar opposite take on this class! It's amazing how two people can view something so differently.
